Wrapping It All Up

Through virtual collaboration, we’ve learned to rely on each other and communicate effectively, especially since we don’t have the ability to meet in person through a physical class. When making this website, we had to learn to rely on each other to announce when they were logging on and off since only one person can be editing at a time, which resulted in an easy stream taking turns to upload our work, rather than all of us editing the same Google Doc and causing confusion. By constantly texting and connecting with each other through Zoom meetings, we were able to remain on the same page throughout the entire process, which has been easier than we thought it would be.

Through this process, we’ve managed to incorporate a lot of class learning and resources to streamline the process, making it effective and nearly seamless. According to the class reading "Getting Virtual Teams Right," author Keith Ferrazzi states “specific guidelines for team interaction are equally vital; research shows that rules reduce uncertainty and enhance trust in social groups, thereby improving productivity,” (Ferrazzi 2014). This has been true for us, as we laid out in painstaking detail who would be in charge of what part of the project, but by laying it out ahead of time, there was a lot more effective communication down the line since everyone knew what their role was. Because of our ability to follow the idea of specific guidelines, we were able to work through the hardships with ease, leading us to have more time to discuss certain complexities down the line rather than throughout the process (and, more importantly, not facing them at the finish line).
